Salt Pond Seining
Students use a 40-foot seining net to collect
organisms that live in the salt pond. Students then
examine the catch and identify each organism. In
the process they learn about its habits and how it is
adapted to live in the salt pond, how it feeds, avoids
predators by using camoflage as well as its place in
the food web. We also discuss the impact of
changes in the pond over time and the effects of
human presence at the pond from Native Americans
to present concerns of pollution, recreational use and
development.

Archaeological Dig
This is an actual dig site run by professional
archaeologist instructors. In this very rare program
opportunity students will each be assigned a 1x1
meter area to research. Every participant will be
trained how to dig, sift and record information as
they explore their assigned area. This will be
followed by a lab where students will clean and sort
what they have found. This is as real as it gets
folks! Space is very limited and there will be no
additional bookings for this program this year.

Monarch Butterfly Migration - Tagging program
Participate in a hands-on research project!
This program allows students to participate in an on
going research project by assisting Lloyd Center staff
in catching and tagging Monarch butterflies. The
students will be introduced to Monarch Butterfly
biology and migration patterns, before heading out to
attempt catching and tagging these beautiful
insects.
(Please prepare students by letting them know
sightings are not always successful but last fall we
had the most successful group of taggers)
