2005-2006 Program Dates for Homeschooling Students
|
| Greetings!
It is not too late to register your students for
Exchange City New England this fall!
Beginning early September 2005, homeschooling students ages
10 and up will work from home using this 35-hour nationally
recognized economics curriculum to learn about personal and
business finance.
After completing the at-home portion of the program, these
students will attend an all day training and a live simulation
day at Exchange City in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.
Exchange City is a unique 8,000 square foot, life- sized
town that includes a city hall and thirteen businesses - all
run by the students. It is a fantastic educational
opportunity not to be missed this fall!

| Learning First Hand! |

During the Exchange City experience, students learn
first-hand what it takes to create a business, advertise
their company, market products and services, supervise
employees, hold elected office, and personally earn and
manage money.

| HELP WANTED |
|
After a job hiring process that includes creating
resumes, completing job applications and having job
interviews, students are hired to one of 60 different
jobs at Exchange City!
Students take on roles of business owners,
entrepreneurs, employees, public officials, consumers
and citizens in a wide variety of businesses. These
include: City Bank; Radio Station; Post Office; Health
Center; Newspaper; Utility Company; Restaurant;
Distribution Center; City Hall and a variety of retail
stores and other businesses.
Students create a business plan, calculate payroll
expenses, plan advertising, take on accounting services,
purchase materials, pay rent, pay taxes, and utilities.
Students also apply for a commercial business loan,
write radio and newspaper advertisements, design
business signs and logos, and create business slogans.
Students and their businesses pay taxes, bills and
repay loans as they market a product, make payroll and
live within the laws of the city.
All of this is done on-site at Exchange
City. Through their immersion in a real-life
scenario, students gain the practical skills of
decision- making and economics and learn the importance
of leadership and teamwork in the process.
